- MathCON is a math competition of two rounds open to all charter and public schools in 5th-12th grades throughout the Midwest States: First round, which is online is followed by an “on site”, paper based test in Chicago. MathCON is a great way to inspire our students through an academic activity outside the regular math class and it continues to grow. The first competition was at 2008 hosted 125 participants. In 2013, 2700 students took the online test at their schools and 354 students qualified to compete at the second round at Chicago.4500 students took the online test in 2014 Spring and 512 students competed at the second round.
- For MathCON 2015, we are aiming to reach out to 10,000 online participants, 1000 of which will be invited to Chicago on May 16, 2014.
This serves to illustrate the importance and value placed on the Math Olympics at Concept Schools. It is also a further remainder that Math Olympics is viewed as a positive and rewarding experience for students, parents, and coaches.
MathCON tests are grade-level specific and are offered at 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade, and High School levels.
Registration is due Friday, March 13, 2015.
Starting on Monday, March 23, 8:00 am until Friday April 3, 6:00 pm, students can take the online test session with 35 math questions in 40 minutes in their own schools with the supervision of their own teachers.
The MathCON online tests may be taken in a two-week window of time. This allows our teachers to fit in with even the busiest of schedules. The online test will be available on iPad, too.
These online competitions will have a 40-minute time limit. Since every question in this online test can be solved without a calculator,no calculator is allowed.Individuals, classroom teams, Concept managed charter schools, entire charter schools, private schools and public schools in Midwest States are all eligible to compete in the Online MathCON competition.
Students will be motivated to improve their fluency, accuracy and challenged with the questions that require ingenuity and insight, but little technical knowledge beyond grade level mathematics. The online test includes problems of varying degree of difficulty that enables all students to be equally challenged.
Registration is very easy and it only takes a few minutes to register your school on the website.
When schools register online, school coordinator will receive an e mail from MathCON explaining how your school and your students will get started.. If you do not receive an e mail, please contact info@MathCON.org
The math coordinator or department head may create individual teachers at the school to coordinate registration at classroom level.
Once your school is registered, math teachers can register as many as students as they want.
After you have registered the school and added each student (name, last name, grade, e mail), the students can then login with the registered email and student password at www.mathcon.orgWhen the students take the online tests, they are instantly scored and those scores are automatically uploaded to our website.
All participating students will receive certificates.
Highest scoring student from each of these grade levels will be invited to the Finals which will be held in University of Illinois at Chicago on May 10, 2014 for a paper-based test.2015 MATH OLYMPICS AWARDS AT UIC Chicago – May 16,2015
