The importance of mathematics competitions has been widely recognized for three reasons:

Helping to develop imaginative capacity and thinking skills whose value far go beyond mathematics. Constituting the most effective way of discovering and fostering mathematical talent. Providing a means to battle the widespread false image of mathematics held by most of our students, as either a difficult or a dull and uncreative subject.
